1. The suggestion here is that Solomonia may have been “spoiled” or hexed by someone who wished her ill and who provoked Satan to visit her.

2. Some manuscripts of Solomonia include the information that this mysterious maiden came from the city of Yaroslavl and that her mother handed her over to the demons at birth.

3. These particular demons are creatures of the field or forest, related to, but not identical with, the water demons who initially kidnapped Solomonia.

4. 1659. Note the discrepancy with the 1661 date given in Part I for the onset of Solomonia’s possession.
